Calliope's Call, a Boston-based artsong performance initiative, recently hosted a competition for works by women, featuring female texts, for female voices. I was very lucky to receive an honorable mention for my song "Warming Her Pearls," out of so many other wonderful submissions to the contest. Thank you so much to Calliope's Call for their kind recognition of my work, and congratulations to all of the winners. Looking forward to hearing some wonderful new artsong this fall!

Shall We Play?
New Zelda: Majora's Mask Piano Album Released
August 29th, 2016
In a similar spirit as my last update, I absolutely adore collaborating with musicians and especially my friends, and this year marks ten years of the joy of having Brendon Shapiro as my accompanist, and also my best friend. Majora's Mask is a game extremely close to my heart, not only because of the darkly beautiful soundtrack but because of its themes of friendship as well. I tell the story in more detail in the liner notes, but I first received this game from my brother Matt, on a day when I really needed a friend to lift my spirits. So it is with huge pleasure that I share mine and Brendon's new piano arrangement album SHALL WE PLAY? featuring the music of Majora's Mask, which is available to play on Spotify. Thank you to Brendon for collaborating with me directly to help me put these arrangements together, Tommy Tallarico and the Video Games Live Level 5 Kickstarter for making this happen, and my brother Matt for giving me this game all those years ago! ;-) And last but not least, Koji Kondo and Toru Minegishi for this magical music. Enjoy!

Video Games Live: Level 5
Featured Arranger/Vocalist/Instrumentalist On New Album
August 15th, 2016
My absolute favorite part of music, and the reason I am a musician, is collaborating and making music with others. The Video Games Live Level 5 album was my absolute dream come true: the opportunity to not only arrange and orchestrate music from games that I deeply care about, but to also work with and feature the talents of so many amazing musicians that I am lucky to call my friends.
"Radical Dreamers" is a re-imagining from the Through Time and Space album I recorded with Brendon Shapiro last year, and this time it features Brendon again along with string orchestra, as well as Shota Nakama on guitar and Kristin Naigus on English Horn.
My new arrangement of music from Okami is one of my favorite pieces I've ever worked on, co-arranged with Kristin's EPIC OKAMI KNOWLEDGE and features her on various Japanese woodwinds, myself on not-Japanese woodwinds and Isaku Kageyama as our Taiko Drum Master, along with Shota on guitar again for a perfect storm of awesomeness.
And Ico's “You Were There” is the piece that is probably closest to my heart, co-orchestrated with my friend Jared Cowing and featuring myself and Omar Najmi as vocalists, and Brendon on piano. These are three of my best friends since college, and I can't think of a more perfect song for us to bring to life together.
In addition to my pieces, I also provided vocals on Eimear Noone's Celtic-inspired Legend of Zelda arrangement, featuring a number of melodies from games across the franchise. So proud of all of my friends, including Doug Perry and Wayne Strange who worked on other arrangements on this album! The album is up on iTunes and Spotify and you should totally check it out, it really is our best VGL yet :) CONGRATULATIONS everyone!!

New Materia Collective Album Released
July 15th, 2016
The wave of Materia Collective albums continues! Check out VERSUS, a collaboration with the game music community GameLark! This album features covers of music from fighting games, both classic and modern. In the words of the official press release, both labels "set up the album to be a friendly competition between the two groups, in the spirit of collaboration and of the fighting game genre." It was a blast to collaborate again with my friend Ben Wallace on his Pokken Tournament track "Magikarp Festival," performing on EWI. Kudos to my buddy Doug Perry for his awesome vibraphone solo and all of the other musicians that collaborated on this super fun EDM/salsa inspired track. Download from iTunes or Loudr today!

Episode 1 "Between the Lines"
June 18th, 2016
I joined my friends at Overclocked Podcast again this weekend--this time, with my own segment! It's an honor to present my guest segment Between the Lines, a variation on my (sadly neglected) blog where I will discuss music theory in video games! For the first test-drive episode, I revisited my article on the Great Bay Temple theme from Majora's Mask. Huge thanks to Stephen Kelly for stitching together the audio examples with my presentation, and for inviting me to do this segment in the first place! Stay tuned for more episodes in the future, and hope you enjoy this first installation!

Composer Matthew Chastney has just dropped his latest album Through the Static, to the Dreamless Sleep! I worked with Matthew recently on his soundtrack for Cornerstone: Song of Tyrim and it was my absolute pleasure to collaborate with him again on this beautiful collection of original pieces. The Body Politic
World Premiere with Juventas New Music Ensemble
May 5th-7th 2016
This week is the world premiere of the opera THE BODY POLITIC, by Leo Hurley and Charles Osborne! This piece is facilitated by the Juventas New Music Ensemble under the artistic direction of Lidiya Yankovskaya. To quote the synopsis from the Juventas website, "A transgender man from Kabul emigrates to the American South at the height of the Afghan War. This world premiere opera explores the complexities of gender and national identity as Iphis sees his world reflected through the contrasting lenses of a conservative parent, a drag queen, a young child, and the fearless mother who raised him." I am so honored to be performing the roles of Young Iphis and Michael in this incredibly unique story about transgenderism in America and the Middle East. It is one of the most challenging roles I've performed to date, and I've learned a ton from being a part of this production. Tickets are available here for our performances at the BCA Plaza Theater. Hope to see you there!

Featured Woodwinds on OST by Matthew Chastney
April 26th, 2016
Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim has just gone live on Steam! I recorded several flutes for this soundtrack, along with my good friend Kristin Naigus on her assorted reeds and winds. This open-world fantasy epic was inspired by the artwork of Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, and it shows in the beautiful animation. It was an honor to perform on this gorgeous and imaginative soundtrack by composer Matthew Chastney, huge thanks to him for reaching out and inviting me to contribute to this project. Check out the release trailer above, and happy playing!

Journey LIVE
World Premiere at MAGFest
February 20th, 2016
I returned to MAGFest this year for the first time since 2010, and what an experience it was! Fifth House Ensemble debuted their Journey LIVE concert on Saturday and it could not have gone better. With arrangements by composer Patrick O'Malley and Austin Wintory himself conducting, a positively magical experience was had by all. It was a great honor to perform the end credits song "I Was Born For This" at this historic event, and I can't thank Austin enough for the opportunity. I also had a great time as a guest performer on Austin Wintory's Q&A and the Making MAGFriends panel with my colleagues Spencer Bambrick, Alex Brandon, Wil Roget, Bonnie Bogovich and Sebastian Wolff, in addition to performing with the hilarious Super Smash Opera orchestra. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful time, looking forward to next year!!
